ASEAN Ecotourism Conference hosted in Manila, Philippines (Dec 2012)

Dave Bamford was in Manilla two weeks ago to present the keynote address on global ecotourism trends at the ASEAN Ecotourism Conference. The conference efficiently organized by the Philippines Ministry of Tourism was attended by over 200 participants. There was a good range of Tourism and Protected Area representatives from all of the ASEAN countries and beyond, including a number of TRC Tourism friends and colleagues.
A major theme that emerged was the concept of Ecotourism is well and truly embedded in the eyes of policy makers and that there are very strong markets for well delivered ecotourism products.
Whilst many ASEAN countries are updating their ecotourism strategies there is a desire to integrate the main principle into their country Tourism and or Development Strategies.
