We are very proud to announce TRC New Zealand is officially a zero carbon company!
TRC’s New Zealand operations has now joined our Australian offices as a Zero Carbon Business completing the registration process which began last year.
TRC Tourism New Zealand teamed up with Ekos to measure and offset our NZ based operations of scope 1, 2 and 3 CO2 emissions for the 2019-2020 financial year. This footprint includes emissions relating to the activities of: electricity, flights, accommodation and non-company vehicles.
We chose Ekos as our NZ partner as they offer offsets that grow and protect indigenous forests in New Zealand and the Pacific Islands which help to deliver climate resilience, waterways protection, erosion control, biodiversity conservation and community economic development. This aligns well with our commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals and membership of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council. TRC is committed to tourism that contributes positively to society and believes tourism can be a driver of positive change and has the power to contribute towards global sustainable development goals. This achievement contributes to TRC’s actions to support its ongoing New Zealand Tourism Sustainability Commitment.
TRC Tourism CE Janet Mackay reflects on the past six months saying “This has been a rewarding and enlightening exercise. TRC’s mantra is about making a difference for people and places, so joining the net zero movement honours this philosophy. We have found both the Australian and New Zealand process easy and affordable and we hope it inspires other tourism organisations and our clients to join us on the journey.”
