Project Description

The first Hutt Valley Tourism Action Plan was prepared in 2018 to provide a strategic framework for a collaborative approach to tourism across the two Territorial Local Authority areas of Hutt City and Upper Hutt City in the Wellington Region. Developed by TRC, this Plan set out ways in which the two Councils could work together and with other partners to manage the Hutt Valley as a unified destination.

With COVID-19 the tourism landscape had shifted, and the focus for Hutt Valley now was to capitalise on increased local pride and build awareness and preference for visitors from Wellington in the short term and building experiences for the return of Wellington City linked international travel in the long term.

This updated Plan developed by TRC acknowledged the achievements over the past three years and informed and aligned a framework for ongoing collaboration and progress. Importantly, this work would also inform the Wellington Regional Destination Management Plan which was being developed at the same time.
