Project Description
TRC Tourism developed the Botanic Gardens of Sydney (BGS) Tourism Strategy 2030 for the Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust, providing a strategic roadmap to enhance tourism experiences across Sydney’s three iconic botanic gardens. The strategy focuses on developing new and enhanced tourism products, strengthening industry partnerships, and improving organisational capacity to deliver high-quality, sustainable, and accessible visitor experiences. A key goal is to position the Botanic Gardens of Sydney as world-class, international-ready attractions that contribute to Sydney’s visitor economy while fostering deeper engagement with nature and conservation.
Key Challenges and TRC’s Solutions
- Creating a Distinct Tourism Identity: TRC identified that the BGS tourism brand needed to differentiate its offerings from other services offered by BGS, aligning with the broader organisational vision while attracting domestic and international visitors.
- Enhancing Visitor Experience and Accessibility: TRC developed a strategy to expand tourism products, including new guided tours, immersive experiences, and First Nations-led programs, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility.
- Streamlining Booking and Trade Partnerships: The strategy proposes a seamless booking system for tourism and educational experiences, alongside initiatives to strengthen engagement with trade partners, online travel agencies, and inbound tour operators.
Key Recommendations
- Develop a structured tourism program with premium, bookable experiences tailored to domestic and international markets.
- Strengthen partnerships with the tourism industry, including trade, hospitality, and cultural sectors.
- Implement a world-class booking and ticketing system to streamline visitor access and increase sales.
- Ensure First Nations involvement in experience design, storytelling, and leadership in cultural tourism offerings.
- Embed sustainability and inclusivity into all tourism experiences, ensuring accessibility and environmental responsibility.
The Botanic Gardens of Sydney Tourism Strategy 2030 sets a vision for enhancing visitor engagement, supporting conservation efforts, and positioning BGS as a premier global destination for nature-based and cultural tourism.
