
Project Description
This Māori Tourism Development Strategy was prepared by TRC Tourism for Destination Wairarapa. The vision for this destination management plan is consistent with the themes and the aspirations identified through consultation.
The Strategy was designed to provide guidance and support to iwi within the Wairarapa region who are looking to embrace tourism as an economic enabler and understand how their pathway to success will also help to achieve the broader aspirations and goals of Wairarapa iwi. Through consultation with Ngāti Rangitāne and Ngāti Kahungunu TRC helped to identify a range of opportunities that could be developed to derive economic, social, and cultural benefit into their communities.
Working with iwi to create this implementation plan ensured that the priorities outlined in the strategy will be conducive to achieving these aspirations for future generations. This strategy is a vital component of the destination management process in creating a destination reflective and supportive of the people who live, work and play in the region.
