Joe Bean

Specialist Partner, Spatial Strategy | Brave and Curious | Australia

Joe applies his architectural skillset – spatial analysis, appropriate design for place and precise graphical documentation – to support community driven projects.

He takes pride in pragmatic and attentive design outcomes. This approach sits comfortably between the built and unbuilt environment and has been developed and explored through projects in urban and rural Australia, the Philippines and Zambia.

A graduate architect and co-founder of Brave and Curious, Joe is based in Hobart and has a passion for learning from immersion – surfing, trail running, multi-day hikes, stopping, listening and feeling. In his work alongside TRC, Joe connects this respect for people and Country with a focus on collaboratively developing resilient frameworks that benefit both human and non-human communities.

Brave and Curious are facilitators who listen and connect so that people and groups can move forward with an agreed plan or strategy. Their projects are socially and ecologically driven and embedded with design expertise. From compact urban design schemes to cultural management plans, they work with stakeholders via two-way listening and reciprocal knowledge sharing.
