Project Description
Tablelands Shire Council wanted to develop a tourism experience of national significance. The plan included developing a concept and designing a state-of-the-art Visitor Experience Centre in Atherton as the hub of the Tablelands tourism region, to increase visitation and spend in the region.
To develop the project concept and business case, TRC worked together with partners Shannon Architects for expert advice with design options and MCa for economic modelling.
A key outcome of this project was that the experience centre – based on the theme of water – was marginally economical but would provide a stimulus to the industry. The immediate need was identified as uniting the industry behind a regional vision and developing regional experiences rather than one big attraction.
