Project Description
Dhilba Guuranda / Innes National Park Cultural Interpretation Plan
Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park is situated on the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia. Home for generations to Narungga people, today the national park is co-managed between the Traditional Owners and South Australian Parks and Wildlife Service.
Many of Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park’s visitor signs and information are old, damaged and focused on non-Indigenous settlement history. In true recognition of the Traditional custodians of Narungga Banggara (Country), TRC together with landscape architects Brave and curious were contracted to support the development of a Cultural Interpretation Plan.
The Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park Cultural Interpretation Plan is about making culture visible through a united Narungga voice. It’s an opportunity to remember ancestors, to honour and respect the living cultural landscape and to create strong language and knowledge. It is also about understanding visitors today and how to best connect and share culture with them.
Following completion of the initial project, TRC and Brave and Curious went on to work with Traditional Owners and SA Parks towards implementation of the Cultural Interpretation Plan.
