Growth in the regional visitor economy had been identified as an important channel for economic development across the Esperance region. The Shire of Esperance engaged TRC to develop a five-year tourism strategy to guide a coordinated approach to tourism development, sustainable growth and yield improvement into the future. Industry consultation by TRC and expert insights from the organisations involved in the Esperance visitor economy were used to draw a picture from which to build the Vision, Guiding Principles, Goal and Strategic Priorities. An accompanying prioritised implementation plan outlined practical and achievable elements which were primarily the responsibility of the Shire. However, in the aim of working towards a truly collaborative approach, some additional actions were included by TRC which would require commitment by other stakeholders that were integral to the success of tourism in Esperance. Case studies were also provided by TRC to demonstrate the types of recommended products and experiences.
