Project Description
The Gippsland Lakes Aquatic Trail had been identified as a hero project in the Gippsland Destination Management Plan and a signature trail in the Gippsland Tracks and Trails Strategy – both delivered by TRC. The Trail is an immersive nature-based experience that positions the Gippsland Lakes as Australia’s premiere destination for aquatic environment adventures.
TRC Tourism were engaged to evaluate the potential and further develop the concept for an iconic Gippsland Lakes Aquatic Trail(s). Market demand research was conducted and case studies to identify critical success factors. TRC Tourism delivered a pre-feasibility report and implementation guide providing guiding principles and positioning of the trail, route itineraries and experience enhancement recommendations that connect the user to the best of nature and the culture of the Gunaikurnai traditional owners of the land.
As a follow on from this project, TRC Tourism undertook detailed assessments including market testing and investor readiness.
TRC was further engaged to develop a Feasibility Study and Business Case that would build on the current Aquatic Trail pre-feasibility planning and substantial body of work that had highlighted the potential of this opportunity. Detailed designs were prepared along with an investment prospectus to support this nationally significant tourism product and market-based opportunity that was shovel ready.
