Project Description

TRC was engaged by Hurunui Tourism (the Hurunui Tourism Board, and the Hurunui Tourism Advisory Group (TAG)) to help them capitalise on a surge in domestic visitors to the region (as result of COVID-19 travel restrictions and trends), whilst retaining the social licence of the local community.
Overseen by the TAG, Hurunui Tourism sought the development of a Destination Management Plan (DMP) that provides the framework to build tourism from and for the community.
The DMP process included significant and wide-ranging stakeholder engagement across the region, enabling cross-sector integration and potential investment opportunities.
This included Iwi engagement to investigate the appetite of local Rūnanga for tourism as an economic and social enabler, which formed the starting point for further engagement.
