TRC were engaged to provide advice on the potential issues arising from the introduction of a third weekly flight to Niue. There was a challenge in growing the benefits from tourism whilst retaining the island’s small, authentic and attractive appeal as a destination.
Existing flight and migration data was analysed and discussions were held with business operators.
Recommendations were made by TRC surrounding airline discussions, small-scale accommodation developments, eco-accommodation, hospitality training program, strategies to encourage ex-patriate Niueans to return, environmental management issues, and events and special activities.
