TRC Tourism were engaged to assess and provide proposals for development of the Oparara Arches as an iconic attraction and viable visitor destination, and to explore options for mountain biking on the Fenian and Oparara Tracks.
Several factors for sustainable tourism development in the Oparara Valley were considered such as: significant conservation values and balancing sensitive sites with increased visitation; improving access road conditions; possible amendments to the Kahurangi National Park Management Plan to allow development; and the importance of building on community values, their relationship with the area and providing opportunities for community benefits.
