Project Description
TRC was engaged on this project to develop a long-term, 10-year strategy to harness the economic, environmental and social benefits of recreation related to MTB in the Outer Eastern Region of Victoria. The study area focused on Council, Crown and freehold land across four council areas.
Several project partners aligned with Yarra Ranges Shire Council to ensure an integrated and collaborative approach – Baw Baw Shire Council, City of Casey, Murrindindi Shire Council, Nillumbik Shire Council, Parks Victoria, Melbourne Water, The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning and the Southern Alpine Resort Management Board.
Development of the strategic recommendations by TRC was guided by principles focusing on delivering high quality trail experiences; an inclusive approach; prioritising environmental stewardship; creating sustainable management and maintenance frameworks; and pursuing a collaborative approach across councils, land managers, user groups, community and relevant stakeholders.
