Project Description

Rangitīkei District Council engaged TRC Tourism to lead the development of a Destination Management Plan (DMP) that would build tourism from and for the community.

The DMP process included significant stakeholder engagement across the region, including partnership with iwi to understand their aspirations for Rangitīkei and to co-design the Plan. TRC consulted with 13 hapū and Iwi within the Rangitikei District to understand their economic drivers, and identify iwi partnerships and how they are to be represented in the destination story to connect People and Place within the region through storytelling and interpretation.

The outcomes of this process were embedded into the DMP process and used as a starting point to create a DMP that considered experiences and industry that allow visitors to engage with People and Place, infrastructure and planning requirements, visitor markets and promotional channels.
