Project Description
TRC was engaged to complete an investigation into Global Best Practice approaches to visitor centres, including centres located within World Heritage sites and visitor interpretation methods.
The purpose of the report was to support Parks Australia, the Kakadu Board of Management, Traditional Owners, Jabiru community members, the tourism industry and signatories of the Memorandum Of Understanding with decision-making towards the proposed new World Heritage Visitor Centre in Kakadu.
In the report, emerging best practice topics were evidenced through a range of ‘practice in action’ and in-depth case studies. Next steps required for future consideration in developing a globally recognised and sustainable visitor centre included a comprehensive consultation and engagement process, finalisation of strategic tourism and interpretation plans to establish the role of the proposed Kakadu World Heritage Visitor Centre within the Park as a whole, and other matters to be addressed.
