Aotearoa New Zealand based TRC consultant, Kylie Ruwhiu-Karawana is travelling through the stunning Te Tairāwhiti region as she joins the Tairāwhiti Gisborne Regional Tourism team to start the journey towards the development of their Destination Management Plan. As is the TRC way, this starts with a round of community, stakeholder and iwi/hapū/whanau consultation to understand what their aspirations are for their people, their place and the stories that connect the two. This first stage of consultation has taken us right to the very top of the region and marks only the first of many steps that will lead to a plan that outlines a positive pathway to a strong visitor economy that supports the local communities and environments.
Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, ēngari taku toa he toa takatini
My successes are not mine alone, they are ours – the greatest successes we will have are from working together.
