TRC together with partners Xyst and Martin Jenkins are working on an exciting project to complete a feasibility assessment for a proposed cycle and walking trail in South Westland in NZ. The proposal would see a trail link Okarito, Franz Josef and Fox Glacier townships through some of the most spectacular country NZ has to offer – including wild beaches, rainforest and mountains including views into the famous Southern Alps world heritage areas.
TRC’s Chris Rose and Xyst’s Anne Relling have completed field assessments of the proposed trail and are now working on the details including proposed costs and benefits with Martin Jenkins.
While the proposal has a long way to go before it is ever built, it is an exciting first step in what would be a significant product for the region which has been hard hit with the impacts of COVID, and also Nationally. TRC and our partners would like to thank all of the groups including Te Runanga o Makaawhio who have had conversations on the proposal including the possible route options that maximise the experience while minimising the impacts.
