Saturday March 20th was International Day of Happiness.
Since 2013, the United Nations has celebrated the International Day of Happiness as a way to recognise the importance of happiness in the lives of people around the world. In 2015, the UN launched the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which seek to end poverty, reduce inequality, and protect our planet – three key aspects that lead to well-being and happiness.
TRC Tourism are currently working with 13 Local Governments in the Goldfields region and partners WolfPeak and Planet Happiness to develop the Sustainable Tourism and Value Creation Toolkit as a supporting element for the Central Victorian Goldfields World Heritage Bid. The Toolkit will assist in leveraging both the journey to inscribe the Central Victorian Goldfields on the World Heritage List and be a catalyst for mobilising and building the region’s visitor economy capacity and offerings, as well as strengthening its resilience, adaptability and recovery especially in a COVID-19 response environment. An integral part of the toolkit is the Happiness Index survey which is an Australian first, launched on Saturday (International Happiness Day) to measure community happiness and their sentiments about tourism.
