TRC’s Alistair Henchman is undertaking a study for Ventus Energy on the potential impacts of a proposed wind energy project on tourism and recreational activities in the Kaimai Ranges in the Hauraki and Matamata-Piako Districts in the Waikato Region in of New Zealand. The report will consider the impacts the 24 wind turbines would have on activities currently undertaken in the area, such as walking and gliding, in both the construction and operational phases, and make recommendations on mitigation of the impacts. It will contemplate he potential tourism opportunities that might arise out of the project, and the possibility that a wind farm tour experience be developed to provide an additional attraction for visitors to the region.
