Consultants Tracy Johnston and Anna Baelz-Stead recently spent time in Tairāwhiti Gisborne on the East Coast of New Zealand. TRC Tourism is working across a number of projects with Activate Tairāwhiti, providing tourism plan strategic directions and actions, individual hands-on guidance and support to three tourism products currently in development, and scoping out potential tourism opportunities along the existing rail corridor.

Tairāwhiti means “the coast upon which the sun shines across the water” and is the first place on the mainland of New Zealand to see the sunrise. It is a region of ‘firsts’ with a rich depth of culture and stories to share that are significant not only to Tairāwhiti Gisborne, but to all of New Zealand.

Whilst visiting and working on these product developments, TRC Tourism also attended a Gisborne Chamber of Commerce event where Activate Tairāwhiti General Manager Tourism – Adam Hughes, launched the Tairāwhiti Gisborne First Light Brand Asset Library. Activate Tairāwhiti has recognised the value of using consistent, good quality and ‘on brand’ visual assets which represent Tairāwhiti Gisborne and their contribution of being a highly effective and important means of promoting the destination, building brand recognition and ultimately inspiring people to visit, work and live in the region.
