TRC Tourism is working with the East Gippsland Shire Council to undertake a feasibility assessment of the proposed Omeo Mountain Bike Destination.

Omeo is a small village situated in the Victorian High Country about 1.5 hour’s drive north of Bairnsdale, and about 45 minutes east of Mount Hotham. Having a long history of gold mining and a rich tradition of cattle and forestry, tourism potentially providing a strong economic future for the town and the region.

TRC is working with the Shire, DELWP, Parks Victoria and the community to undertake a feasibility assessment and business case for the proposal. The TRC work builds on the previous work undertaken by Dirt Art and will provide an economic analysis using the Victorian Treasury guidelines.

TRC’s Chris Rose and the East Gippsland Council’s Stephen Kleinitz inspected the site yesterday and also held a small community meeting to understand what it means to the community and to develop some of the inputs into the business case. The work has a quick turnaround to coincide with the masterplan currently underway.
