TRC Director Janet Mackay and Business Manager Jo Davis travelled to Vietnam this month to undertake an assessment of Ha Long Bay for the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Janet will advise the IUCN on the state of conservation in the area, with particular attention to visitor management.
Accompanied by an independent waste management specialist from the Netherlands, the team spent a week meeting local managers and reviewing the situation in preparation for a report providing advice to the Ha Long Bay Management Board on strategies to deal with pollution, manage visitor numbers, provide appropriate infrastructure and improve the overall visitor experience in the World Heritage Listed area and surrounding buffer zone.
